The largest challenge there is for the consultant who is looking at several different people to fill a position. It becomes that consultant's responsibility to determine what matters most to those individuals and how that fits with the company. This involves Schein's (1998) career anchors, as these are designed to show what motivates a person and what he or she is most likely to work for. Everyone has something that matters to them, whether it be food, shelter, status, money, fame, or something else -- or a combination of these. A consultant for any company that is looking to fill a position in an executive capacity must balance the career anchors, goals, and motivations of the potential candidates for the job with what the company is willing and able to offer to those people.
